The only perfect kit is if you build it yourself, only problem is you will have 10 different batteries.

Oil compressor tend to last longer and are more heavy duty. They are hard to get working when it is cold outside.

It does get hot where they can burn themselves. Not red hot. I have two boys and was worried about the same thing. One is 3 and the other just turned 1. Both know not to go around it. I would not recommend this, but some people have put fireplace screens in front of the insert. Only problem if your kids throw a toy or ball and it gets in-between the insert and the screen and nobody knows, it will sit there and could start a fire.

It might slow down after everyone has switched over to brushless motors. Battery tech changing is a given, but if they let us use the old tools with new batters then that's fine with me.

I hear you on that one. The only problem is if you wait, then in a year something else will come out that is better. Things are starting to move very fast in the power tool industry. You use to be able to buy a tool and it was good for 5 years. Now it seems like something new is coming out every year.

It took me a while to figure out how much wood to burn in the fireplace. I use to always fill it up. Then I realized that if I just throw two pieces in the fireplace and set it on low, I saved wood and kept the house a nice temp. Just FYI for your readers.

I'm sour about the M18 Fuel ordeal. I spent all last year upgrading my cordless tools to the M18 and M12 lines, then I find out they are obsolete witin only a few months. Doesn't take anything away from the ones I have, they're awesome tools, but I wish I'd have waited. That's the way it goes I guess.

I have heard other people say this also. When the insert cools down, just push it back farther into the fireplace. It should put more outward pressure on the shroud and stop the rattling. I would not use any inserts since it gets hot and could cause a fire.

That's what I thought, but it stays clean for longer than you would expect. In fact if you have it on high, it stays very clean. The only time it gets dirty is if you run it on low for a long time. When it does get dirty, just run it on high and it will burn it all off.
