Weather Guard Remote – Quick Draw Remote Access System

Weather Guard Remote

If you have been following Tools in Action for a while, you know we are huge fans of Weather Guard truck boxes.  In fact, they have won a couple of TIA awards over the years.  These boxes are tough and as the name implies, they protect your things from the weather.  In our opinion, there isn’t any other box on the market that is built to the high-quality standards as Weather Guard.  As much as we love Weather Guard, that’s not why we are here today.  Well, actually it’s part of the reason.  But we recently found out Weather Guard has a cool accessory on the market and wanted to let you know about it.  The accessory we are talking about is the Weather Guard Remote system.  So what is the quick draw remote access system?

As good as the Weather Guard locks and latches are, there is one small problem, you have to manually open them.  Yes, that is partially a joke, but there are times when it can be a pain in the rear.  The Weather Guard remote system will allow you to open your truck box with a simple remote.  Seriously, how cool is that?  The Weather Guard Remote can be installed on most existing Weather Guard boxes, but check their website to make sure it works with yours.

You may be wondering why we are writing this article and including it in the Toolaton since we haven’t even installed it yet.  Great questions.  Our goal right now is just to let you know it’s available.  Second, we will be installing it soon, but we want to have time with the unit before we write the review.  Winter is coming up and we want to see how well it works when there is snow and ice on the box.   If you are interested in buying one, feel free to leave a comment below or send us an email and I can give you an update.

There are two main features to this remote.  As I already said you can use the remote to open the box from 100′ away, which is a pretty good distance.  The second cool feature with this system is Proximity Keyless Entry.  If you are within 5′ of the box, it will automatically unlock.  How cool is that?

You can open up to three truck boxes using a single remote.  In regards to installing the unit, it doesn’t look bad.  It does run off external power from your truck, so you don’t have to worry about replacing batteries or taking up more room in the box.

The system uses Multi-level digital encryption for increased security, so don’t worry about anyone hacking the system or using another remote to get int to your box.  A user can program up to 10 total remote FOBs per vehicle.  This is great as you can give access to multiple users.

Now I know this system isn’t for everyone, but I think it’s a cool accessory that a lot of users would buy.  Is this really a necessary item for your box?  No, it’s more of a convenience item.  Every day we hear stories of people who’s tools were stolen from their vehicle and I think this is a great system to have just for that convenience.  How many times have you walked away from your truck and thought, did I lock my truck box?  Well instead of walking back and checking, just hit the remote.  How many times do you leave your box unlock because you are just running inside and will be back to get more stuff out of the box?  Now you can run inside, lock the box and easily unlock it when you get back outside.  I think you get the point and know where I am going with this.  With a 2 year warranty, it’s hard to go wrong.

Again, we will be having an update on the workings behind the box such as how it’s holding up, how long does the remote battery last, how does it work in winter time and more.
