Bosch GLL3-80 3 Plane 360-Degree Leveling and Alignment Line Laser

I stated back in an earlier review that the Bosch GLL3-80 is the best laser and I still stand by that claim.  I know some might argue with me, but just check out what others are saying about the Bosch GLL3-80 Laser.  This is truly your one stop laser and the only laser you will need, well to an extent.

If you’re not familiar with this laser you can check out our other review of the Bosch Laser, but I do want to cover some things that make this laser so great.  First, you get a full 360° plane coverage for both horizontal and vertical applications.  How cool is that?  This also means you have a point laser too because right where the lines intersect, there is your point.  The laser is so easy to use, I can even use it.  There is one switch on the side to turn the unit on, off and on self leveling of ± 4°.  On the top there are also two buttons.  One for pulse mode (receiver sold separately) and one push button to select which lines you want to show.

The indoor range is about 65 ft.  You can use this outside with a lot further range, but you will need to buy the receiver.  I haven’t tested the accuracy, but according to Bosch it’s ± 1/4″ @ 100 ft. which is very accurate.  The unit runs on 4 AA batteries.  You will get about 18 hrs of use if you’re using a single line.  With two lines you get about 9 hours and with all three lines you will get about 5 hours.  One nice thing is the unit shuts off about 20 minutes after it detects no use, so it helps save your batteries.  To turn it back on, just press one of the buttons on top.  For anyone interested it does have an IP54 for water protection.

Bosch Laser 19I have used this laser for everything from laying out basements, tiling, transferring points from the ground to the ceiling and more.   My other lasers have been sitting on the shelf because I really haven’t needed them.  This laser replaces my point laser, cross line, tiling and even my rotary laser, well almost my rotary laser.  I still need the distance of the rotary because I don’t have a receiver for the GLL3-80 for longer distances.  Whoever developed this laser needs a raise because this laser is great.  Easy to operate and accurate, plus I don’t have to worry about my other lasers.  One thing I do have to say is I did drop this laser when it was on.  My heart dropped when the laser landed on the floor.  I picked it up expecting it to be broken or something wrong.  To my amazement, it worked great and nothing was wrong.  I wouldn’t recommend dropping this laser.  If you do, you should get it calibrated.  I ended up setting the laser up and taking a measurement 15′ out.  For my eyes it was still perfect and for what I do, it is just as accurate.  Now if I went out 200′ with a receiver, it might be a different story.

Bosch is now offering this as a bundle where you can buy the laser along with a tripod.  You know about the laser so let’s look at the tripod.  The model number of the tripod is BS 150 and is a compact tripod with collapsible legs and weighs a total of two pounds for easy storage and transportation.  I have to say the tripod is nice, sturdy and lightweight.  You can easily adjust the legs and align the laser to different heights.  One nice thing about the tripod is the feet actually pivot so they can contour to the surrounding ground.

The package deal Bosch offers with the laser and tripod is nice, who doesn’t like a bundle?  The one thing to note is when you buy the bundle, you don’t get the hard case which you can see in our previous review.  They offer this with a soft case.  For me I really like the hard case because I want to protect this laser from bumps and more.

It’s nice to see Bosch selling this unit with a tripod so you can get everything you need with one order.  Again, I am a huge fan of this laser and now that you can buy this with a tripod, what are you waiting for?  If you’re looking for the perfect or close to perfect laser, then this is your laser.

    • He is sitting next to me and he said ” Some of it did and some of it didn’t. and that he would never use it again. He is to lazy to log in! lol

  1. Nice tilework in the bathroom. I had a question. On the opposite side of the shower wall where there is a rectangle section of tile that goes recessed into the wall a bit( not sure what to call it) the question is do you have to reinforce the other side of the wall behind the tile in case someone drills or hammers into the recessed section from the other side?

    • It wouldn’t be a bad idea. I built the frame, then a box with plywood backer and cement board. I know its there and have no plans on nailing anything on the wall on the other side.

  2. Great writeup Eric, I really like the the Bosch laser yall did a while back, this one is to professional for me lol…

  3. I’ve been eyeballing this thing for a couple of years at least, but can’t bring myself to spend almost $500 to replace my DeWalt DW087, which doesn’t do 360 degrees or multiple vertical planes, and I got for $100 new about 5 years ago.
