Dewalt Jig Saw Review – Model DW331KR

    

A Jig Saw is a pretty cool power tool, it gives the user a lot of freedom to make a variety of cuts, not just straight lines.  The Dewalt Jig saw model number DW331KR is no different.  Dewalt made a pretty heavy duty saw providing it with a 6.5amp motor that delivers variable speeds of 500-3,100 SPM.  The stroke length is 1″ making it a snap to cut through most any thick material.  As with most Jig Saws this features a keyless blade change.  One item we really like it this has a total of four different orbital positions to choose from.  The bevel capacity is 0-45 degrees.  One nice item to mention is the weight is 6.4lbs, so its not too heavy, but at the same time its not too light where you might loose control of your cut.  Two other notable items are the non-marring shoe which protects glossy materials from scratches.  The other is the dust blower.

Dewalt Jig Saw Review

The Dw331KR is a factory reconditioned Dewalt Jig Saw.  We know some of you don’t like reconditioned power tools, but this is one worth taking for a test drive.  One great thing to notice about this saw is the feel.  We have picked up some saws where they are extremely light and just don’t feel right in your hand.  The Dewalt jig Saw is just the opposite.  Not that we are saying its too heavy, but it is just heavy enough where the user can have great control. Long story short, this saw can rip through just about anything, but has enough control to even cut more delicate, thin wood. 

As you can see from the video, the dust blower is pretty cool and effective.  When we first saw this, we thought it was more or less a joke.  We thought it was one of those goofy features a manufacturer puts on the box to help their tool stand out, when in fact it doesn’t do anything.  Well, that’s not the case with this saw, the blower actually works.  As you can see it moves a lot of material away from the front of the saw rather quickly.  In our test we actually put a lot more debris, including heavier items, than a user will ever see if they are making a cut. 

We also cut trough some very thin pieces of wood such as 1/8″ white oak sheets.  We knew it had enough power to cut through this, but we just wanted to make sure it didn’t have too much power.  The variable trigger is a key to make this type of cut and the Dewalt variable trigger was very easy to control and keep at a constant speed for the cut.  As off the wall as it sounds, we really like the feel of this variable trigger, very easy to control.

Cutting through the 3/4″ plywood was a snap also, as you can see by the video.  Even using a bevel cut, it didn’t have any problems running through the material.  Not sure how many feet we cut, but it sure seemed well over 100′ and after the cuts, our hands and wrists were fine.  The vibrations were very minimal in the saw which is not only good for the user, but it also tells you this saw is transferring more energy to the cut.   

Final thoughts on the Dewalt Jig Saw

Overall this is a very nice Jig Saw.  There is lots of power to this light weight saw.  The features this saw has are great and very useful.  The balance is great and the handle allows the user to maintain proper control of the saw.  We thought the dust blower might be a joke, but it turns out it was very useful and was really a dust blower, not some gimmick.
