Bosch DLR165K Digital Rangefinder

Published on August 24, 2008 by in News

We have received numerous questions about rangefinders in terms of getting the best bang for the buck.  We have had some questions about the less expensive ones, no name, or brand name rangefinders.  Well, they are manufactured with a wide variety of designs.  I received a non-brand one for Christmas last year.  It wasn’t bad, but I could tell it was a cheaper version.  The case was not protected, and  I ended up dropping and breaking the rangefinder.  Not to mention the couple times I did use it, the measurements were off by up to 1.5″.  Sometimes when I would try to get a measurement, if the surface was not reflective or out in the sun light, I couldn’t get a reading at all. l

I saw the Bosch DLR165K first hand the other day and have to say this is the next item I am picking up.  It is very cool.  First, it came in a nice carrying case to protect the rangefinder.  The Bosch rangefinder also had some nice rubber pads on the side of the tool, just in case you are clumsy and drop it.  Second, the screen was very easy to read. The numbers on the display were very clear.  I also really was impressed with the measurement features.  You can measure up to 165 feet and take readings from four points.  The front of the range, the back, a tripod position or even a swing out bar  if you have to get into channels.

Another nice feature is the ability to measure area and volume. But the best feature is the triangular feature. This comes in handy when you can’t get a good reading because of lack of light or no surface reflection.  There is also a feature for continuous length, ie: when you are walking it will still work and show the distance in real time.

Bosch claims it is accurate up to 1/16″.  We tried it on a couple different surfaces and it was very accurate. I was extremely impressed.

Anyway, I wanted to answer the emails that were sent about which rangefinder to go with.
